Description
When I first got Charlie, he ran to me and put his paw on my knee, bonding us forever - first time I ever fell in love with a dog. Although he had chronic health problems, beginning when he was only two, he was the most loyal, athletic, joyous, happy best friend I could ever ask for. I always said he was destined to break my heart one day but he brought me more joy than I ever had a right to deserve. He brought out the very best of me. My heartbreaker. Charlie lived his best life for another eight years, hiking, swimming, running with the bike, chasing the ball, tracking the ball, boating - every fun thing we could think of. Because of his chronic Hepatitis, I didn’t give him vaccines or neuter him because they could cause a flare up. This led to prostate problems and hernias. He was finally in a good place when he was ten and then he just went down. My heart was torn out but after two weeks, I decided the only way to work through losing my best friend was to paint him so I sat down and did it though, really, it was the last thing I wanted to do. Wallowing in my grief sounded better. But I loved him so much, I had to do this as a tribute to him. I worked on it for days , a week, more and suddenly, I looked at it while I was trying to do the finishing touches and realized that I recognized my sweet sweet Charlie. Then I broke down and cried my eyes out. This is that painting.

Hi Lil, Just reading breaks my heart too for you. Charlie is just adorable and so beautifully painted. It's a wonderful legacy that you have given to him. Blessings to you and to the loving memories you will always have. It's very hard to lose a best-friend-pet.
Lil Taylor replied:
Thank you, Catherine. I had Charlie until the day after Thanksgiving so it's really hard. But I was blessed to live every single 10 and a half years as if each day might be the last.
